Up for sale, a 1963 Gibson B-25-12 in 100% original, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. This is an infinitely playable and properly setup vintage Gibson acoustic 12 string with a well-seated bridge, straight neck and surprisingly low action. Unlike most B-25-12s which have a trapeze tailpiece and less stability and resonance, the earliest examples like the one seen here have a Gibson belly up bridge, anchoring the strings with traditional bridge pins for greater tonal depth and sustain. Sharing features with the B-25 and its predecessor the LG-3, this Gibson features a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, while boasting a very manageable 14 1/8" lower bout width that's extremely comfortable to cradle in your lap.

The X braced construction of this 12 string goes a long way to ensuring that it can handle the tension of twelve strings, while also allowing for a very robust, clear, and chiming tone. This guitar projects incredibly well, with a detail and top end smoothness that comes from the spruce and mahogany tonewood combination. The six courses of strings have a sound that easily fills a room and would provide a full, present sound in any ensemble. Weighing 4lbs 8oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this B-25-12 features fresh bronze strings and low action.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a D-shaped neck profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .890" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original medium jumbo frets which show only very light wear on the crowns of frets 1-5. The neck is straight and the truss rod is responsive, and this B-25-12 plays easily in all registers up the 24 3/4" scale. The nut measures a full 2" in width, ensuring ideal spacing between the string courses. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines turn smoothly with stock white buttons.

All of the original braces are intact and stable, and there is limited deflection of the top behind the Brazilian rosewood bridge. The adjustable rosewood saddle has good height with room for adjustment. Visible through the soundhole, the "B-25-12" model designation is stamped on the center seam. Stunningly well-kept, the vibrant Cherry Sunburst top is accented by the stock deep red tortoise pickguard which sits flush with the top on all edges, and there is also a small, professionally repaired "B string crack" between the pickguard edge and rosewood bridge. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to a bit of faint finish checking adjacent to the feet of the bridge, more prominent lacquer checking on the sides, and just a few light scuffs in the clear coat of the gloss on the back. The Cherry back, sides and neck are particularly saturated and unfaded, and the neck profile is flawless.

While many vintage acoustic 12 string guitars simply can't handle the string tension over the course of 50+ years, this Gibson was made to last and still plays extremely well with action and playability that outperforms the vast majority of 12 string acoustics on the market.

A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
