Up for sale, a 1963 Epiphone Casino E-230TD in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early example of the Casino with nickel hardware, short headstock and full 1 11/16" nut width, this guitar has been professionally refinished and tastefully relic'd by Riggio Custom Guitars in a greened-out custom color Pelham Blue.A lively instrument, the natural acoustic tone of the instrument has the note attack and articulation inherent in maple as a tonewood, with the breadth and airy warmth of the hollowbody construction. The original black bobbin P-90 pickup pair delivers glassy sparkle and dynamic, percussive cut in every pickup position with a rich, textured midrange character and plenty of bark and muscle when you dig in. And while the bridge pickup has more chewy growl and treble-centric presence, the neck pickup is bold and thick, retaining the articulation necessary for complex chording. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a slender, effortless C-shaped profile carve at the nut with more heft and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810" deep at the 1st fret and .995" at the 12th. On the extremely dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard, the original medium jumbo frets have been leveled and currently show no wear, with notably flat crowns, putting these frets firmly in “fretless wonder” territory. This Casino plays easily up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nylon nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width. The headstock is the shorter, more Gibson-esque variety seen pre-1965, complete with a set of original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines. There are a few small marks on the headstock face, and the tuner post holes were enlarged in the past, with a set of push-in conversion bushings installed for a clean vintage look. The electronics include the original P-90 pair capped with stock nickel covers, and the pickups meter at 7.85k ohms in the neck position and 7.55k ohms at the bridge. The wiring harness features modern 500K pots and tone caps. Hardware includes a very faithfully replicated modern genuine Gibson ABR-1 bridge with the correct "shaved" or "low profile" base used only on vibrato-equipped Gibson and Epiphone models. The bridge works in concert with the original nickel-plated Trem-o-Tone tailpiece which features its original arm and Brazilian rosewood insert with "E" epsilon foil sticker. This unit has a smooth response for subtle shimmies and bends. Plastics comprise the original quartet of gold reflector cap knobs and the original white multi-ply pickguard. The original blue rectangular serialized label is visible through the F hole, matching the serial intact on the back of the headstock. The gloss nitro lacquer Pelham Blue custom color finish was expertly applied by Riggio Custom Guitars with a few small simulated marks of wear and light, purposeful lacquer checking. The greening is a result of simulated aging of the clearcoat, done in such a way as to faithfully replicate the most common pattern for this greening in that it’s heavier on the body and lessened on the neck profile and headstock. Fresh back from Riggio, there is no wear on the finish beyond the relic treatment. An Epiphone brown tolex Lifton-style hardshell case with pink plush interior is included. Originally from a John Lennon signature model, the case lid has Lennon's signature and iconic self portrait.
