Up for sale, a 1962 Maestro (Gibson) GA-2RT Deluxe Reverb-Echo 1x12” combo amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Manufactured by Gibson in their Kalamazoo, MI factory, this Maestro-branded GA-2RT features a dual-channel, dual-input design, with footswitchable Reverb and Tremolo.
This Maestro yields an ideal blend of smooth treble push and spongy, warm low-mid fullness. Volume is ample, given the tube complement and form-factor, with 12-15 watt output and equivalent perceived volume to a mid-size Fender Tweed-era amp. Channel One is slightly more restrained and articulate, while Channel Two is quite potent even at lower settings, offering creamy tube break up around 5 on the knob. The Reverb is splashy, and the Tremolo is decidedly musical, with solid sweeps at the stacked Speed and Depth knobs for a wide range of dimensional sounds.
The circuit is very original and freshly serviced, retaining the stock transformer pair, manufactured by Magnetic Components, Inc, with date codes from 1961 and ‘62. The original Stackpole pots have visible date codes from the 2nd week of ‘62. The preamp is untouched save for one metal film resistor, the power supply has been professionally recapped, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. Tubes include a matched pair of Electro Harmonix 6V6 power tubes, a Tung-Sol 5Y3GT rectifier, and five 12AX7s/6EU7s in the preamp. The cabinet is loaded with a 1959 Oxford 12HB-15 alnico magnet 12” driver (replacement, era-correct), which has been reconed.
The amp features its original tweed covering, oxblood grillcloth, and raised Maestro badge. On the serialized control plate, all of the original knobs are intact, with the exception of the top of the stacked Tremolo control. Wear on the cabinet is quite restrained and as-pictured.
The original two-button footswitch is included.
