Up for sale, a 1962 Gibson SG Special in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with original hardshell case. With the original Maestro Vibrola in the case, this SG is currently outfitted with a MojoAxe tailpiece (intonated for a plain G) and locking tailpiece studs for maximal sustain and resonance.

Featuring solid Honduran mahogany construction with a dark Brazilian rosewood slab fretboard, this SG is acoustically lively and detailed, featherweight at 6lbs 15oz and balancing well on a strap with virtually no neck dive. The P-90s are powerful and dynamic, both retaining their original winds and metering at 8.1k ohms in the bridge position and 7.7k at the neck. The bridge pickup is muscular and bouncy, with plenty of low end growl while retaining focus. The neck pickup is sweet and articulate, with a harmonically complex midrange and almost piano-like bloom when notes ring out. This SG Special has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Cherry gloss nitro lacquer has aged almost to walnut, with a prominent “tan line” beneath the pickguard retaining a rich, unfaded Cherry color, and more red retained on the back of the instrument due to less UV exposure. Lacquer checking is sparse on top and faint/tight on the back, with light buckle rash central to the back and a few minor nicks and finish scuffs from careful use. The trio of factory mounting holes for the Maestro Vibrola are present behind the bridge. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is free of palm wear, with some shallow marks on the profile length worn smooth through play.

The original “small pebble” black hardshell case with gold plush interior is included. The case retains the stock latches and handle, with small Gibson badge on the exterior. The original Maestro Vibrola, bridge and tailpiece studs are included, and or all of which can be reinstalled prior to shipment at the buyer’s discretion.
