Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Pro in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original footswitch and modern slip cover. This amp delivers 40 powerful, articulate all-tube watts via a matched pair of Tung Sol 5881 power tubes. Similar in its size, output and features to the concurrently produced Vibrasonic, the Pro breaks up slightly sooner with smaller transformers. Yet with the inclusion of a vintage Jensen P15N speaker, this Pro yields ample headroom, projection and power for both bold Fender cleans and rich, textured drive. The Pro also boasts Fender's unique "Harmonic Vibrato" circuit, and this complex design was Fender's only true pitch-shifting vibrato offered in an amp. Swampy, thick, and very Leslie-esque, it's a three-dimensional, full-bodied effect.
The circuit is freshly serviced, balancing originality and functionality. All of the stock Schumacher-made transformers are present, with date codes spanning the 17th week of ‘61 to the 41st week of ‘62. The preamp has been recapped with premium modern Sprague tubular caps, and a few modern metal film resistors have been installed to ensure the lowest possible noise floor. All of the original Stackpole and CTS pots are present, with visible date codes from ‘62. The power supply has been fully recapped with high quality Sprague Atom and F&T caps, and a modern three-prong power cable has been installed. Tubes include a matched pair of properly biased Tung Sol small bottle 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes and a full suite of vintage USA-made Sylvania valves in the preamp.
The speaker is an era-correct Jensen P15N alnico magnet driver with a clean frame and date code translating to the 50th week of 1962. The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet, and the "KG" stamp dates to July of 1961.
The amp retains the original rough brown tolex and dark oxblood grillcloth, and stock hardware includes the molded dogbone handle, nickel-plated corners, sphinx glides (feet), chassis straps and flat Fender logo. The faceplate is in great shape, complete with the full set of original brown barrel knobs and pristine graphics.
The original single button footswitch is included along with a vintage-style (modern) slip cover.
