Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Princeton in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This genuine vintage Brownface era Princeton features the 6G2 circuit and has been serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike' Guitar Bar, balancing originality and functionality. The Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive as you turn up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too.
The circuit retains the original pair of Schumacher transformers which date to mid '62, and the preamp retains a number of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps, which have a particularly sweet, musical tonal character, paired with a few modern Sozo caps with a similar look and tonal response. The original Stackpole pots are intact, and the original filter can cap has been retained for an original external appearance, with new Sprague Atom filter caps fitted inside the chassis to ensure optimal performance of the power supply. The tube complement includes a matched pair of vintage JAN 6V6s with a General Electric 5Y3 rectifier and vintage preamp tubes as well.
The speaker is a genuine gold frame Oxford 10K5 speaker with a modern cone and ceramic magnet construction. The original tube chart is intact, retaining an "LH" date stamp which translates to August of 1962.
Cosmetically, this amp features the original rough brown tolex, wheat grillcloth, and a modern leather handle. There's a bit of light staining and scuffing on the edges of the enclosure, and light patina on the original handle caps and chassis straps. The faceplate is very clean, retaining the original brown barrel knobs.
