Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Princeton in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This well-kept Brown Panel Princeton features the 6G2-A circuit, professionally serviced and very original, complete with the stock Oxford 10K5 ceramic magnet speaker.
Loaded with a vintage JAN Philips 6V6 power tube pair, this Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive as you turn up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too.
The circuit retains the original pair of Schumacher transformers, with a power transformer that dates to the 28th week of '62, while the output transformer dates to the 38th week of '62. The preamp features modern tubular capacitors, with a combination of original carbon comp resistors and modern metal film resistors to ensure an optimal noise floor. The original Stackpole pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 23rd week of '62. The multi-section can cap a modern replacement, along with the smaller electrolytics in the preamp. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The tube complement includes a pair of voltage matched JAN Phillips 6V6s with a JAN Philips 5Y3 rectifier and modern valves in the preamp.
The original ceramic magnet Oxford 10K5 speaker is intact with an extremely clean frame and original speaker harness. The original tube chart is present inside the cabinet, retaining an "LH" date stamp which translates to August of 1962.
Cosmetically, the original rough brown tolex shows only very minor wear on the enclosure edges, and the original wheat grillcloth is also extremely clean. The faceplate retains the original brown barrel knobs. The leather handle is original as well, and all of the original hardware is intact including handle caps, chassis straps, and sphinx glides (feet).
