Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Jaguar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and strap. A first-year example of the Jaguar model, this guitar features a fully-loaded body from the 4th quarter of 1962, paired with a slightly earlier slab board Jaguar neck from April of '62.

There's an unmistakable acoustic resonance and clarity with this Jaguar, and the warmth and string to string balance of the acoustic signal translates well through the pickups. The top of the line Fender model when introduced in '62, the Jaguar has a particularly wide range of tones available to the player, while living up to its reputation of being able to out-twang a Tele and deliver sparkling, glassy cleans like no other Fender can. The earliest incarnation of the Jaguar (from 1962-mid '63) had the flat pole piece pickups seen here, and this pair delivers a sound that is much bigger than one expects from a Jag. The bridge pickup has a lively and very three-dimensional sound with a thick, chewy spank. The neck pickup has a woody bark and plenty of percussive sparkle. Each pickup position is very distinct, and these tones are further broadened by the Low Cut toggle and Rhythm Circuit, making the signal notably brighter and fatter/darker, respectively This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with 11-49 roundwound strings, accurate intonation, and easy-playing action.

The lightly figured birdseye maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, offering a gentle yet consistent increase in overall heft up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret, graduating to .960" at the 12th. The slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard was a feature only offered on the first Jaguars until mid 1962, dark and tight-grained. The fretboard has a 7 1/4" radius, and the slender fretwire has been lightly leveled and crowned with good meat remaining, showing no wear. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact on the headstock. The "Fender Jaguar" waterslide decal is in near mint condition, with plenty of gold flake still present in the Fender name. The April, 1962 date stamp is intact on the neck heel.

All of the electronics function flawlessly, and the pair of original black bobbin Jaguar pickups compliment each other well. The bridge pickup retains its original windings, while the neck pickup has been rewound to match. The wiring harness is completely original, and the Stackpole pots date to the 32nd week of 1962. The routes on the body are untouched and original with stock shielding plates on both the body cavities and the underside of the pickguard.

Original chrome-plated hardware includes the bridge with flip-up mute and cover, vibrato unit, control plates, and serialized neck plate. The original mute foam is intact (new foam will be needed for the mute to properly dampen the strings), and the vibrato unit engages very smoothly, complete with the original arm. The tortoise nitrate pickguard sits particularly flat on the body with virtually no shrinkage, and bright white pickup covers and pointer knobs round out the plastics.

In terms of cosmetic wear, this is a lovely example with a completely unfaded and notably vibrant three-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer finish. The deep red ring in the middle of the burst is very rich, and the color transitions to a deep, blackish-brown on the edges of the offset body. There is absolutely no "tan line" between the exposed finish and that which has been preserved beneath the guard and control plates. Cosmetic wear on the body is limited to two spots of cable worming both on the treble side upper bout and on the lower bout adjacent to the rear strap button, with some dings and finish chips along the lower bout body edge, and light buckle rash central to the back. The smooth lightly ambered gloss is extremely smooth on the neck profile, with a couple small spots of faint palm wear through the gloss.

The original brown tolex hardshell case with brown leather ends is included. This case is in fantastic shape and all three working latches are intact, along with a clean brown leather handle, and orange interior. The original strap is also included.
