Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Jaguar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. A first year example of the Jaguar model, the instrument has been professionally refinished in Olympic White gloss nitro lacquer with a matching peghead, retaining the original pair of flat pole piece black bobbin pickups. This Pre-CBS Fender sports an alder body, maple neck and an unbound Brazilian rosewood fretboard refretted with medium jumbo fretwire for effortless playability. The clear, lively natural acoustic tone of the instrument is channeled through the original pair of flat pole black bobbin pickups, and in terms of tone and feel, this Jaguar is simply a joy to play and a classic example of the guitar that was Fender's top-tier instrument in '62. The original pickups have the twang, chime, and cut for which these single coils are known, and in output they're virtually identical to a Strat pickup, albeit with the metal "claw" surrounds that both focus the magnetic field of the pickups and reduce unwanted hum. The flat pole piece design is also unique to Jags produced from 1962-63, yielding a fatter, fuller sound than later iterations. The myriad of switching options and 1Meg potentiometers ensure that the Jaguar can cover much more range than a Strat, while still covering the traditional Fender single coil territory. In the Lead Circuit (hexagonal control plate), the "strangle" switch cuts low end and can make for great tic-tac tones. The Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's bass side horn introduces a set of darker tonalities exclusive to the neck pickup, with a richness and low end girth that fills things out nicely and is great for driving a tube amp or your favorite fuzz box. This Jag weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, with fresh 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender C profile carve at the nut, quickly gaining significant shoulder and heft as you travel up the fretboard with baseball bat chunk from the 7th fret and beyond. The fretboard edges are lightly rolled, and the profile measures .815" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is an extremely dark and tight-grained cut of this hallowed tonewood, professionally refretted with medium jumbo fretwire. The new frets are practically perfect with well-rounded crowns and plenty of meat, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has Fender's "B" width nut measuring 1 5/8", upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The matching Olympic White peghead retains the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The September, 1962 date stamp on the neck heel is intact and bold.On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of original black bobbin pickups. The bridge pickup retains its original windings and the neck pickup has just been rewound to match, complete with stock covers and claws on both single coils. The wiring harness is completely original, with Stackpole pots that date to the 32nd week of '62. All of the original chrome control plates have plenty of shine, and the original bridge pairs with the original flip-up string mute complete with fresh foam. The vibrato has a smooth, responsive feel complete with the original arm, allowing for everything from subtle trills to deep, expressive dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. The plastic parts include an era-correct red tortoise nitrate pickguard complete with the aluminum shielding plate, and the original pair of knobs. The body features a professionally applied bright Olympic White gloss nitro lacquer refinish, with broad, faint lacquer checking across the instrument. Beyond the checking, there are just a few pinhead-sized marks on the body as a whole, and the neck profile has a smooth gloss nitro finish that feels great on the palm.A modern Fender G&G Deluxe hardshell case is included.***We are dealers for the Mastery M1 bridge and Offset Vibrato which can be installed/included prior to shipment for an additional charge***
