Up for sale, a 1961 Gibson LG-1 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A particularly well-kept golden age Gibson, this LG-1 features a slender, effortless C-shaped neck profile carve, solid ladder braced spruce top, solid Honduran mahogany back, sides and one-piece neck, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.

Extremely lively with tons of projection and a detailed sparkling cut that belies its body size, this LG-1 is truly one of the most powerful-sounding Gibsons in its class we’ve encountered. Trebles are punchy and clear, very present but never brittle, while the wound strings are taut and barking, with a sweet growl in the midrange. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and featherweight at 3lbs 11oz, this LG-1 features comfortable action and fresh 12-53 strings.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .795" deep at the 1st fret and .870" at the 9th. On the extremely dark and tight-grained Brazilian rosewood fretboard, the original medium jumbo frets have good meat, showing light, uniform wear beneath the strings on frets 1-3 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains a very clean gold Gibson silkscreen and original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines with stock white buttons. There is a speckling of surface patina on the tuners, with a slight bend in the D string tuner arm that doesn't affect functionality.

The Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and the original saddle still has decent height with the factory neck set. The thin dark tortoise pickguard also sits very flat, and there is one small repaired split between the treble-side fretboard extension and edge of the soundhole, and a similar repair along the pickguard edge between the soundhole and bridge.

The original Sunburst gloss finish exhibits light lacquer checking across the body, ambering of the body binding, and various small dings and light finish scratches consistent with careful use, mostly relegated to the back and sides. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss, free of palm wear with one small, shallow finish chip central to the carve behind fret 6.

A modern premium black tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included.
