Up for sale, a 1960's Univox Custom thinline hollowbody bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of Univox's rarer offerings in the '60s, this "Custom" model (according to the headstock badge) features a hollow maple body with bookmatched curly flame maple veneers on the top and back, framed by a bold Red Sunburst gloss finish.

This short scale bass is a very easy-playing and fat-sounding instrument with a round, sweet thump and ideal treble articulation without being overtly “bright.” The tone controls have a smooth musical roll-off, and the instrument is strung with 45-105 roundwound strings. The bass weighs 7lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a round C profile carve with generous shoulder, both substantial and very easy to fret, even for smaller hands, measuring .930" deep at the 1st fret and 1.080" at the 12th. The multi-ply bound rosewood fretboard retains the original medium jumbo frets which have good meat and show virtually no wear, playing cleanly up the 30 1/2" scale. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original chrome-plated tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The headstock also retains its raised "Univox Custom" badge.

All of the electronics function as intended, with dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each of the single coil pickups, capped with stock black bonnet knobs. Hardware includes the original four-saddle bridge, complete with cover, mounted on a floating rosewood base which matches the bridge pickup riser. The Red Sunburst finish is incredibly clean, with a bit of requisite pick scuffing across the strum path and just a few tiny nicks on top. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some faint finish scratches on the back, along with an isolated spot of light wear central to the lower bout and one small finish chip on the back body edge. The neck profile has an extremely clean and smooth ambered gloss finish.

An Epiphone-branded black tolex hardshell case is included.
