Up for sale, a 1960s Teisco Del Rey E-100 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a vintage chipboard case. This rare iteration of the Del Rey platform features set neck construction with a solitary neck pickup. The single coil pickup meters at 6.25k ohms, and it’s meaty and warm-sounding, with plenty of top end articulation, percussive cut and upper-midrange chewiness. This Teisco is featherweight at just 4lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The three-piece maple/mahogany neck has a substantial “baseball bat” C-shaped profile carve with ample shoulder and even more heft in the upper registers, measuring .910” deep at the 1st fret and 1.20” at the 9th. The bound rosewood fretboard has small block inlay along the bass-side edge with flawless stock slender fretwire. This Teisco plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and an optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 3/4“ in width. The six-on-a-side headstock has a Del Rey decal (possibly an aftermarket addition), and the original open-gear tuners hold pitch as they should. The back of the headstock retains the original silver foil model sticker, and the “Steel Reinforced Neck” sticker is present on the contoured neck heel.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickup governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. In true Teisco fashion, the Tone knob is inverted, offering maximum treble at 0. The chrome-plated hardware is all notably clean, including the wraparound bridge and the pickup cover. Plastics are also quite pristine, including the original pair of knobs and the clean one-ply black pickguard. This is an extremely well-kept example, with cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish limited to a small area of buckle rash on the back central to the waist and a handful of tiny dings along the lower bout body edge. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with just a few shallow marks that are imperceptible to the palm.
A vintage chipboard case with black alligator exterior is included.
