Up for sale, a 1960s Kay “Old Kraftsman” Jazz II in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original chipboard case. Produced under the "Old Kraftsman" brand, this guitar was a Kay made specifically for sale via the Spiegel mail order catalog, and is otherwise identical to its Kay branded counterparts in terms of build quality, hardware, and electronics, featuring the same “Kleenex Box” P-35 pickups as the earlier Kay-made Barney Kessel models.

The body is crafted from curly maple, with a “Thin-lite” hard maple neck and bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard. This Jazz II has a full and barking acoustic tone, and the Kleenex Box pickup is one of the cooler sounding "off the beaten path" 1960's single coil designs, not unlike a P-90, yet with a distinctive dry, percussive cut and a more tailored midrange. The Kleenex Box pickups offer big, articulate single coil tone in each position on the three-way switch. This Jazz II weighs 6lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Sunburst (described by Kay as a Cremona violin brown/golden burst) nitro lacquer finish highlights the tight curly flame figuring, particularly dimensional on the back. The finish shows some vertical lacquer checking, with a small touched-up spot on the bass-side lower bout perimeter, and a small piece of new binding above the neck bolts. Wear is otherwise limited to a small area of shallow buckle rash central to the lower bout and a few small finish chips along the perimeter. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.

A vintage faux alligator chipboard case is included, yet in rough shape.
