Up for sale, an early 1960s Fender Model 400 pedal steel in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This alder bodied long-scale, professional-grade pedal steel was the first iteration of the 400 offered by Fender and features four pedals with a single Jazzmaster-style alnico pole piece pickup. Setup in D9 western swing tuning, this Model 400 is ready for studio and stage use. From left to right, pedal one brings the 2nd D and 8th A strings down to C#, pedal two brings the 3rd and 8th A strings up a whole step to B, pedal three brings the 1st and 4th string F#s up a half step to G, and pedal four raises the 2nd string D to an E and the 6th string D to an Eb.The stock electronics work as they should, with a Volume knob and Tone knob controlling the single Jazzmaster-style pickup, measuring a robust 9.12k ohms and offering the kind of glassy top end and broad, warm bass response for which this pickup style is known. The hardware includes the original chrome control plate, knurled metal knobs, and even the original "ashtray" bridge cover.Cosmetically, this pedal steel is in excellent condition with clean chrome and light yellowing in the clear coat on the Olympic White nitro lacquer finish. There are two isolated areas of palm wear through the finish, as well as light wear on the front edge of the pedal brace. Overall, this is an incredibly well-preserved and complete Fender Model 400 pedal steel. The original brown tolex hardshell case is included with gold plush interior and the original latches and handle intact. Some brown duct tape has been added to the leather case ends.
