Up for sale, a 1960 Harmony Stratotone Mars model H45 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A simple and straightforward vintage Stratotone model, this USA-made Mars H45 features a Volume and Tone control for the single original DeArmond-made "Hershey Bar" pickup. A fully hollow maple bodied instrument with a wooly bark and clear treble cut when strummed acoustically, these tonal properties translate through the pickup with great accuracy. The pickup has a rich, warm sound and a percussive character without being too snappy, and the low end stays defined. The instrument is featherweight at 4lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and easy-playing action.
The maple neck has a round, baseball-bat C-shaped profile carve, measuring .945" deep at the 1st fret and 1.025" at the 12th. The slender fretwire is in great shape, with just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3 and similar wear into the dyed maple fingerboard in this area. The steel-reinforced neck is straight, the scale length measures 24 1/4“, and the bone nut measures 1 3/4“ in width. On the headstock, the original open-gear tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well with stock white buttons.
All of the electronics work as intended, and the wiring is untouched. Beneath the pickguard, the Spring, 1960 date is stamped on the maple body. Original hardware comprises the floating rosewood bridge and clean chrome-plated trapeze tailpiece. Plastics include the original single-ply pickguard, notable for being the earlier version of this guard before the pinstriping and graphics were added in later years. The original cupcake Tone knob is present, while the Volume knob is a modern substitution.
The gloss two-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer finish has faint vertical checking, and cosmetic wear includes an area of buckle rash central to the waist and some minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back and rims. The finish on the neck profile exhibits light palm wear and a few scattered marks.
A gigbag is included.
