Up for sale, a 1960 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6119 Tennessean in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original two-tone blonde "cowboy" case and 100% original save for a professional refret. The original iteration of the 6119 Chet Atkins model only available from 1958-60, this guitar features a slender 16" wide maple body with trestle bracing, a single bridge position Pat. Pending Filter'Tron humbucker, and a slender maple neck capped with a slab Brazilian rosewood fingerboard.Featherweight at 6lbs 8oz, this guitar has a naturally full and detailed acoustic tone that translates to a vital range of tonalities via the Filter'Tron humbucker. The pickup has a bold, broadband punch, exquisite clarity, and treble sparkle, with a pair of darker, smoother sounds available via the three-way Tone switch (bypassed in the middle). Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Gretsch with 10-46 strings and low action. The two-piece maple neck has a medium C profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and broad flame figuring along the bass side, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 9th. The fretboard is a particularly visually dynamic cut of Brazilian rosewood, refretted with medium jumbo frets that have flawless crowns and plenty of meat. The guitar plays easily up the 24 1/2" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard width is 1 11/16" at the zero fret just forward of the carved bone nut. The headstock face is inlaid with the Gretsch logo, and the guitar retains its stock chrome-plated Waverly tuning machines. The electronics function as intended and are all original, with the early Pat. Pending-embossed FilterTron humbucker cover wired to a Master Volume knob and three-way Tone switch. Hardware includes the original chrome-plated brass bar bridge, ensuring a bell-like treble response, working in concert with the Bigsby B6 vibrato tailpiece. The original sign post Chet Atkins pickguard is in remarkable shape, and visible through the F hole, the serialized Gretsch label is present, placing production near the end of '60.The Western Red gloss nitro lacquer finish is extremely vibrant, showing a light targeted spot of buckle rash central to the back, one spot of light finish wear through the gloss on the bass side lower bout on the back, and a few small nicks and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile has natural palm wear through the gloss behind frets 2-7.The original Gretsch two-tone "cowboy" case is included with tooled leather trim on the lid and red plush interior with both a Gretsch "G" embossed in the material and Gretsch banner. All of the original latches are intact, as is the taped-over handle.
