Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Studio Deluxe console steel in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original brown tolex hardshell case and telescoping legs. An extremely clean Pre-CBS Fender console steel, the Studio Deluxe is 100% original save for nitro lacquer overspray in Olympic White. This steel is essentially identical to the Champ steel of the era, save for the trio of chrome-plated legs and corresponding flanges on the underside of the steel. The tone is quintessential Fender single coil richness and chime, and the pickup is for all intents and purposes an early black bobbin Stratocaster pickup with flat pole pieces. There's a bell-like sweetness to the sound that is equal parts twang and silk, and few instruments have a more pure, simple signal path. The playing surface is clean, with immaculate block inlays, and the patent pending chrome Fender headstock overlay houses the stock single-line Kluson tuners. The electronics are untouched, with original solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 19th week of '60. The pickup even retains the original "Cheerio" rubber spacers between the pickup cover and baseplate, and the large yellow Astron tone cap is present. The bridge cover is intact, and the control plate and flat-topped knurled knobs have plenty of shine. The finish overspray includes a nitro lacquer Olympic White color coat and clear coat on top, shot over the original finish, and the work was very well-executed. The steel has been subsequently well-kept, with just a few minor marks on the edges of the body. The original Fender waterslide decal is pristine and was cleanly masked off when the body was oversprayed. The original brown tolex "knucklebuster" hardshell case with gold interior is included and equally as clean as the steel. The case retains its original handle and trio of functional latches, with the central latch located beneath the handle (thus the knucklebuster name). The original legs fit neatly inside the case too.
