Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Champ in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Simple, elegant and 100% original save for one substituted NOS capacitor, this vintage Champ boasts its original ambered lacquered tweed and hallowed 5F1 circuit. It doesn't get much more pure than the Champ, and this studio favorite delivers freakishly dynamic and glassy pure tube tone that can go from clean to fully saturated overdrive with a twist of the single knob.
The circuit is 100% original save for one substituted capacitor, replaced with an NOS Black Cat. Even the original Minimite power supply caps are still viable, and the original two-prong gray power cable is intact. Both original Schumacher transformers date to the first weeks of 1960. The chassis itself boasts a clean chrome faceplate with all of the original white silkscreen lettering and just a bit of light pitting. The original Stackpole pot is present too, and the chassis has a small "JD" date stamp which translates to April of 1960. The tube set consists of a Tung Sol 12AX7 and matching vintage Sylvania 5Y3 and 6V6 valves.
The original Oxford alnico magnet speaker has a clean frame, sounding spectacular with a modern recone and dating to the 1st week of 1960. The tube chart is fully intact as well, noting the 5F1 circuit and stamped with the same JD stamp seen on the chassis.
Cosmetically, the original lacquered tweed has ambered modestly, with a few minor scuffs and light stains, but overall the tweed looks particularly great and uniformly aged, with original nailed-in feet and even the original leather handle. Both back panels are original as well as the baffle, which retains the original oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe.
