Up for sale, a 1960 Ampeg Jet J-12 vintage tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Not to be confused with the numerous "Jet" reissues offered by Ampeg over the decades, this is a genuine original J-12 with early and rare "Navy Random Flair" tolex only used on the first few years of production. The tone is extremely dynamic and sensitive to your pick attack, and while the amp can deliver a slightly scooped clean tone at low volumes, this Ampeg has an incredible amount of gain on tap. At around 2 on the volume dial the amp starts to sizzle and roar with a raw buzzsaw churn, and the tone control is particularly responsive for thickening or thinning out the sound as necessary. It's an ideal recording amp with a surprising amount of volume via the original Jensen P12S speaker. Top things off with a thick, throbbing tremolo and you have a very impressive, compact tube amp. The chassis has clean chrome plating with the original output transformer and a modern power transformer. The stock Centralab pots have visible date codes from 1960 and the preamp features a combination of vintage and modern capacitors on the eyelet board. The tubes are all vintage valves, with a pair of matched 6V6 power tubes, JAN and Sylvania-branded preamp tubes and an RCA-branded 5Y3 rectifier. The alnico magnet Jensen P12S speaker is original as well, with a clean gray frame, original foil label on the magnet, and date code from the 41st week of ‘60. Visible inside the cabinet, the tube chart is also fully intact. Cosmetically, this amp is notably clean, with original Navy Random Flair covering (deep blue with silver sparkles), silver sparkle grillcloth, and original leather handle. On the chrome faceplate, the majority of the original white silkscreen lettering is also intact.
