Up for sale, a 1959 Gibson LG-1 in excellent, well-maintained condition, complete with a modern hardshell case and fitted with a K&K pickup. A golden age Gibson, this LG-1 features a substantial late '50s C-shaped neck profile carve, solid ladder braced spruce top, solid Honduran mahogany back, sides and one-piece neck, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.

Extremely lively with tons of projection and a detailed, sparkling cut that belies its body size, this LG-1 has notable sonic breadth beyond the scope of most LG-1s of the era. The guitar offers trebles that are equal parts punchy and airy, while the wound strings are taut and barking, with a sweet underlying growl when digging in hard with a flatpick. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and featherweight at 4lbs, this LG-1 features easy-playing action and fresh 12-53 strings.

The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a proper “baseball bat” C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .890" deep at the 1st fret and .995" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of ths tonewood, and the guitar has been professionally refretted with vintage-spec medium jumbo fretwire. The frets exhibit moderate wear on the crowns of frets 1-3 (primarily beneath the plain strings), with wear extending and growing lighter beneath the B and High E strings until fret 8. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains a clean gold Gibson silkscreen. The tuners are a set of mid-1960s Kluson Deluxe double line gears, matching the footprint and style of the original tuners perfectly and functioning reliably with original white buttons.

The guitar benefits from a professional neck reset, and the Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, fitted with a modern carved bone saddle that has moderate height for future adjustment. The original extremely dark red tortoise pickguard sits flush with the top on all edges. The S-prefix Factory Order Number is boldly stamped on the heel block, and the LG-1 model stamp is present too, both of which are visible through the soundhole. The K&K Pure Western pickup has a trio of sensors on the underside of the top, ensuring a balanced, detailed recreation of the instrument’s natural acoustic properties, complete with a 1/4” endpin jack

The original three-tone Sunburst gloss finish is particularly warm, highlighting subtle bearclaw figuring in the spruce, and exhibiting some requisite strum wear across the soundhole and beyond the pickguard edge. The center seam has been re-glued on top, and the small B string crack between the pickguard edge and bridge has also been addressed. Cosmetic wear includes dings and scuffs on the body as a whole, as well as moderate buckle rash on the back. The neck profile gloss is clean and smooth with just a few very minor marks.

A brand new black tolex TKL hardshell case is included.
