Up for sale, a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with an original hangtag and chipboard faux alligator case. 100% original save for a recent professional refret, the sound is everything you expect a great Junior to be, and the solid Honduran mahogany construction delivers an acoustic voice that is extremely authoritative and clear. The neck profile carve is the quintessential '59 baseball bat shape with plenty of meat and roundness. Via the original dogear P-90 pickup, this Gibson truly delivers on the brand's golden era reputation with rich harmonic content, and a lively, midrange-forward growl. Featherweight at 6lbs 10oz, the instrument feels very substantial when you dig in hard, with a distinctive sparkling top end due in part to the aluminum wraparound tailpiece. For sweet P-90 single coil tone that can range from chiming cleans to roaring, all out raucousness through your favorite tube amp, this guitar has a versatility and tonal depth that belies its simple yet elegant appointments. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and currently strung with 10-46 strings, this guitar has low action and effortless playability.
The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a round, inviting baseball bat C-shaped profile carve, yielding gobs of sustain and a rich resonance central to this Junior’s lively, vital response, measuring .895" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The jet black and tight-grained Brazilian rosewood fretboard has been refretted with vintage-spec medium jumbo fretwire that has plenty of meat and flawless crowns. The scale length measures 24 3/4", and the nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact with clean nickel plating and their original white buttons. The original serial number is clearly inked on the back of the headstock, along with the gold silkscreen Gibson logo and "Les Paul Junior" script text on the headstock's face.
The original dogear P-90 pickup features a clean bobbin and original windings, and the solder joints are untouched on the harness, with the bumblebee capacitor bridging the pots. The lightweight aluminum wraparound bridge is present, as are all of the original plastic parts including the transparent tortoise pickguard and black bonnet knobs.
The gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, extremely vibrant on the back with a slightly more muted, yet still ruddy shade of Cherry on top. This guitar has zero headstock or heel issues, and cosmetic wear includes requisite light pick scuffing across the tortoise guard, light wear on the outside edge of the bass-side body horn, minor buckle wear central to the back, and various small nicks and marks on the body as a whole from careful use. Lacquer checking is very tight on the bass-side body horn with sparser checking on the lower bout on top. The neck retains its Cherry nitro gloss, free of palm wear with just a couple tiny marks on the profile and two shallow finish chips central to the carve.
The original brown faux alligator chipboard case is included. The case retains the Gibson badge on the case pocket, functional latches, and a small piece of the original handle still attached to the brass handle clasp. The original Gibson Sonomatic Strings hangtag is also included and remarkably well-preserved.
