Up for sale, a 1958 Martin 00-18 in collector-grade condition, recently serviced and complete with a hardshell case. Quite remarkable in its preservation, this Martin has received all the maintenance due an acoustic of this vintage, benefitting from a neck reset, fret dress, a reseated original tortoise pickguard, and a new tall compensated bone saddle.
Tonewoods include a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and rims, and a mahogany neck capped with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. In contrast to its pristine cosmetics, the top sounds nicely worked-in, and even a light strum yields remarkable projection, with notes positively leaping off the fingerboard. Expressive and woody-sounding, there’s a distinctive sparkle in the treble register and a delicate airiness widely associated with ‘50s Martins, with focused clarity at the wound strings, a touch of natural compression when pushed hard, and an overarching smoothness. This 00-18 weighs 3lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.

The gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original, save for a small amount of touch-up on the headstock face, exhibiting just a couple short, professionally repaired splits on the mahogany rims on the lower bout, and a similarly small repaired crack below the original, reseated pickguard. There are some minor finish scratches and small dings on the body, with light pick wear on top (largely constrained to the guard), and some expected lacquer checking. The smooth finish on the neck profile is flawless save for a few tiny marks behind frets 5 and 6 that are imperceptible to the palm while fretting.
A vintage black tolex hardshell case is included. The case shows moderate wear with functional latches and a plastic molded handle, and there are a few vintage travel stickers on top.
