Up for sale, a 1958 Martin 00-17 in perfect working order, complete with a vintage chipboard case. Introduced in 1930 as an affordable, Depression era Martin model, the 00-17 features all mahogany body and neck construction, with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard, bridge and headstock overlay. This particular 00-17 benefits from work due an instrument of its vintage, including a professional neck reset and a full refret.

The guitar offers an extremely bold, muscular sound easily yielding ample projection. The trebles are round and sparkling, and the mids have a nice punchy quality with a woody growl in the low end. This 00-17 is featherweight at 3lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.

The neck has two repaired cracks behind frets 1-2 on the treble-side of the carve, cleanly addressed and smooth to the touch. The body is crack-free, and the original satin finish has lacquer checking extending in all directions. There is one large scratch on the lower bout on top, with a similar circular scratch surrounding the endpin and a scuff through the lacquer on the treble-side upper both rim. Various dings and scuffs from decades of use round out the cosmetic wear. The neck profile has a smooth, inviting feel, with just one scuff through the gloss on the treble-side shoulder behind fret 5.
