Up for sale, a 1958 Guild X-350B Stratford in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Guild first introduced the Stratford model in 1953, vying for prominence in the top-tier jazz archtop pantheon aside contemporaries including the Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster and Epiphone Emperor Regent. Originally known by the X-375 model designation, the model was rechristened the X-350 when the top wood was switched from spruce to figured maple, with the Blonde “B” suffix denoting a rare, natural-finished example.
Weighing 7lbs 8oz with a full 17” wide lower bout, this Guild features all-maple construction with a thick slab bound rosewood fingerboard. The stock trio of Franz single-coil pickups (made in Astoria, Queens not far from Guild’s Hoboken home) offer a notably bright, clear response with bouncy, sparkling highs, sweet midrange-forward cut and round, focused lows. The unique ‘multi-switch’ offers six push-button selections, offering the pickups individually or in three pairings.
