1958 Fender Champ Tweed Vintage Tube Amplifier Pre-CBS Class A 5F1 Circuit

Out Of Stock
Up for sale, a 1958 Fender Champ, recently serviced with original tweed, stock transformers and an early Rola alnico magnet speaker. Simple and elegant, this vintage Champ boasts the hallowed 5F1 circuit. It doesn't get much more pure than the Champ, and this studio favorite delivers freakishly dynamic and glassy pure tube tone that can go from clean to fully saturated overdrive with a twist of the single knob.

The circuit has been serviced as needed, with new Sprague electrolytics in the power supply and smaller tubular Mallory caps in the preamp. Both original transformers are intact, as is the original Stackpole pot which dates to the 14th week of 1958. The chassis itself boasts a chrome-plated control plate with plenty of shine and only light surface pitting, and virtually all of the original white silkscreen lettering is intact. The tube set consists of an RCA 5Y3 rectifier, with a JJ 6V6 power tube and 12AX7 preamp tube

The vintage, era-correct Rola alnico magnet 8" speaker has a clean frame, sounding spectacular with a modern recone and actually dating earlier than the amp, with a code on the edge of the frame from mid-1955. The tube chart is fully intact as well, noting the 5F1 circuit and stamped with a "HG" code that translates to July of 1958.

The original lacquered tweed has ambered heavily, with a couple bald edges on the top of the enclosure. The oxblood grillcloth is original as well on the stock baffle, and the original upper back panel is intact, with a replica smaller lower back panel aged to match. The leather handle is an exact replica of the original.
