Up for sale, a 1958/1961 Fender Stratocaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order, pairing an April 1958 neck with a fully loaded 1961 body, complete with the original brown tolex hardshell case. A best-of-both-worlds Pre-CBS Stratocaster, this “Partscaster” was loved and played by its previous owner for half a century, shown here exactly as it lived the better part of its life, with a ‘70s body-only hippie refinish, retaining the original three-tone Sunburst nitro lacquer beneath the pickguard and hardware. And let’s not overlook a previous owner’s greatest contribution: a “Telecaster” waterslide decal on the decidedly Stratocaster headstock.
Weighing 8lbs 2oz, this Strat pairs an alder body with a one-piece maple neck, delivering an acoustic quality that’s round, lively and clear, with the resonance of the original tremolo block and the stability and performance of a couple ‘70s-centric hardware choices including Schaller tuners and block saddles. The neck pickup retains its original windings, while the middle and bridge pickups have been rewound to spec, metering at 6.12k ohms at the bridge, 6.13k in the middle, and 5.4k in the neck position. The neck pickup has a velvety chime and smooth, woody quality, while the middle pickup offers a dry, percussive cut and the bridge is all spank and bounce. The "in-between" positions on the three-way switch are clear and bell-like without being overly thin or hollow, and the Tone knobs have a smooth roll off, retaining definition and adding body when dialed back. This Stratocaster has been professionally set up here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The body has been stripped to the bare alder with the contours faithfully retained, and the original three-tone Sunburst finish is still intact beneath the original mint green nitrate pickguard, in the neck pocket, and under the neck plate and tremolo. There's a repaired split on the back extending from the corner of the tremolo cavity and wrapping around near the rear strap button. The original lacquer on the neck has been oversprayed, with some tight checking on the fretboard and playwear through the gloss on frets 1-8, and the headstock carries a later "Telecaster" waterslide decal.
The original brown tolex hardshell case is included (quite rough, but it exists), along with the previous owner’s tooled leather strap.
