Up for sale, a 1956 Silvertone Artist Hawaiian model 01310 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original chipboard case. Crafted by Valco in Chicago (home of National, Supro, etc) for Sears’ Silvertone brand, this 01310 was the top-tier lap steel model available (described as “our best model” in the catalog) at the time of production. Features include a Charcoal Pearloid covering, lucite playing surface, and staggered single coil pickup.
The body is purportedly crafted from “hardwood,” very probably maple, and this Artist 01310 has a lively, jangling sparkle. Plugged in, the distinctive Valco-made staggered pole single coil pickup is equal parts sweet, articulate, and punchy, with an almost pronounced vowel vocal-like character (as much natural “wah” as you could want) and a smoothness accentuated by the fresh set of 13-56 flatwound strings. Weighing 4lbs 15oz, this Silvertone Artist Hawaiian 01310 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar.
Specs:
-Scale Length: 23“
-Nut: Lucite, 1 3/4“ string spacing
-String Spacing: 2 3/16” at bridge
-Playing Surface: Lucite, lined, rectangular prism position markers
-Headstock: Silvertone Artist plaque
