Up for sale, a 1956 Gibson Les Paul Junior in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a case. Refinished back to its original TV Yellow finish courtesy of Riggio Custom Guitars, this Junior is featherweight at 6lbs 10oz with a lively, authoritative voice and great natural resonance.
Metering at 7.7k ohms, the P-90 pickup yields tons of rich harmonic content and a touch-sensitive, midrange-forward growl. The aluminum wraparound tailpiece ensures a distinctive glassy top end, and this pickup has a notably potent spank, retaining the original windings. For sweet P-90 tone that can range from chiming cleans to roaring, all out raucousness through a tube amp of choice, this guitar has a versatility and tonal depth that belies its simple appointments. This Les Paul Junior has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Honduran mahogany
-Shape: Medium C, measuring .855” 1st fret, .950” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Brazilian rosewood, dot inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo (refret), no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”, bone (modern)
-Tuners: Kluson Deluxe single-line strip
-Serialization: 6-prefix (1956), inked
Body Specs:
-Wood: Honduran mahogany
-Pickups: P-90 (7.7k ohms)
-Controls: Volume, Tone
-Harness: CTS 500k pots (modern), Bumblebee tone cap
-Hardware: Aluminum wraparound tailpiece
-Plastics: One-ply black pickguard, black bonnet knobs (modern), “dogear” pickup cover
Well-kept and cleanly refretted with ‘58-spec medium jumbos and a hand-carved bone nut, this Junior retains much of its original hardware and plastics, with the stock pickguard, dogear pickup cover and truss rod cover, while the knobs are an aged pair made with Cellulose Acetate Butyrate plastic, dimpled on top and blacklighting like a genuine vintage pair. The original tuners and tailpiece are intact, with full 1” inserts on the wraparound.
The gloss TV Yellow nitro lacquer body/neck refinish courtesy of Joe Riggio is pitch perfect in its execution with light sympathetic aging to match the stock hardware and plastics. The original finish is intact on the headstock face, and the “Les Paul Junior” text is still faintly visible. The serial is a new number and inked in the traditional fashion. There’s no wear beyond the recently shot TV finish, and the gloss on the neck profile is smooth and clean.
A vintage case is included.
