Up for sale, a 1956 Gibson Les Paul Junior in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a modern hardshell case. A notably clean Junior, this vintage Gibson is 100% original save for a clean medium jumbo refret ('58 spec Gibson fretwire). Featuring a Honduran mahogany body and neck capped by a Brazilian rosewood fretboard, this Les Paul Junior has a lively, authoritative voice with great natural resonance.

A "best of both worlds" Junior, this Gibson features the full 1" depth bridge posts introduced in '56, eliminating the post lean seen on most Juniors from 1954-55. The depth of the neck carve is in line with the more substantial shapes seen in 1957-58, yet without the more overt shoulders often seen by '57, and the fretboard edges are nicely rolled for a particularly inviting feel. The bridge itself also has the more distinctive compensation at the bridge posts seen on earlier Juniors, offering a touch more treble zing and bass register mellowness, given the bridge post placement relative to the P-90.

The P-90 pickup is wound a touch more conservatively than most, metering at 6.75k ohms, yet doesn't lack in perceived volume or attitude, yielding tons of rich harmonic content and a touch-sensitive, midrange-forward growl. The aluminum wraparound tailpiece ensures a distinctive glassy top end, and this P-90 has a potent spank, retaining the original windings. The pickup has muscle, richness and dynamic range, with particularly sweet bark in the trebles and a kick in the low end. Weighing 8lbs 5oz, this Les Paul Junior has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and the broad, dynamic grain of the Honduran mahogany is highlighted on the back of the body and headstock. The lacquer checking is largely horizontal, with minor dings largely concentrated on the perimeter of the slab body and on the lower bout of the back. There is virtually no buckle wear on the back. The lacquer on the neck profile is smooth, with some shallow chattering along the length of the carve and a small area of finish loss central to the carve behind frets 5-7, none of which distracts the palm while fretting.

A modern hardshell case is included.
