Up for sale, a 1956 Gibson ES-175 in time-capsule clean, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A 100% original no-excuses genuine golden age Gibson instrument in jaw-dropping condition, this ES-175 has a quintessential '50s Gibson neck profile carve and singular neck position P-90 pickup. This sweet sounding archtop has all the detail, tonal complexity, and sweet, dynamic tone one could desire in a Gibson archtop. The fully hollow maple body gives the guitar both the immediate attack and clarity of maple, but also the smoothness and warmth attributable to the hollowbody construction. Extremely smooth, bold, and balanced acoustically with great treble articulation, these qualities translate to a particularly authoritative, clear and bell-like neck pickup which meters at 7.75k ohms. The guitar is featherweight at 5lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-52 roundwound strings and accurate intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a round and substantial '50s C-shaped profile carve with ample shoulder and ideal substance. The neck profile is nigh flawless, free of palm wear and very smooth. The bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a nice and dark cut of this premium tonewood, and the original slender "banjo" frets are intact with their full factory height, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5. The original nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains one of the last sets of "no line" Kluson Deluxe tuners (the no-lines were replaced with single line gears mid-56) which have gleaming nickel plating and practically perfect sharp-edged transparent keystone buttons. All of the electronics work as they should, and there's just a hint of surface patina on the nickel pole pieces and trapeze tailpiece. The Brazilian rosewood bridge with compensated saddle rounds out the hardware, and the neck set is ideal, with ample height on both bridge thumbwheels. The all original plastics are remarkable in their presentation, with a bit of the typical upward curvature of the guard and just a few light pick scuffs across the guard as well. The orange label is visible through the F hole and pristine, with hand-written model information and a stamped A-prefix serial number.Cosmetically, the original nitro lacquer Sunburst finish is 100% original and positively glossy, framing light figuring central to the lower bout on the back. Wear is limited to a few light finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the back, and extremely faint vertical lacquer checking. An era-correct hardshell case with a brown textured exterior, purple plush interior, original handle, and functional latches is included.
