Up for sale, a 1956 Fender Princeton in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Featuring the original tweed and oxblood grillcloth, a very straight 5F2 circuit, and a Jensen P8R speaker, this Princeton is considered the "big box" version, with a cab that's far larger than the single 8" alnico magnet speaker requires. The resulting sound is deceptively round and rich relative to the speaker size. The circuit couldn't be more simple and pure, with single Volume and Tone knobs and a Class A circuit design, powered by a single 6V6 power tube. The tone is articulate, dynamic and commanding, with the sizzle and churning overdrive of a Champ, but with more tonal range and fuller low end. The top end response is just right, and the amp doesn't get too trebly, making the tone control quite usable for dialing in exactly as much zing and snap as you desire. The circuit is very original and only serviced as necessary for optimal functionality, retaining the original Triad transformers. The original yellow Astron capacitors are intact, with one modern CTS pot and one original Stackpole pot which dates to the 47th week of 1955. The original power supply caps are original and still functioning as intended, with just one new electrolytic cap in the preamp sleeved in the original  Astron Minimite wrapper. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The speaker is an era-correct Jensen P8R with a more robust magnet and better wattage handling than what one usually finds in a Princeton, resulting in more muscle and fuller low end. The speaker has an extremely clean frame, modern cone, and bold 1961 date code on the top of the magnet. The original tube chart is intact inside the cabinet, with an "FE" date stamp that translates to May of 1956.The original tweed shows modest ambering, with some scuffing, edge wear, and a couple bald corners, yet very presentable overall. Both original back panels are intact, as is the oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe. The faceplate is extremely clean, with all of the white silkscreened font, shiny chrome, and a pair of original chicken head knobs. The original leather handle is also intact and still viable.
