Up for sale, a 1955 Fender Stringmaster Dual 8 console steel in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original telescoping legs and tweed hardshell case. This early D8 Stringmaster features unique push-button controls for engaging each neck, each with a pair of black bobbin pickups.
This Stringmaster features a Blonde nitro lacquer finish over an ash body, offering an extremely sweet, articulate, and dynamic sound. The trebles have quintessential Fender sparkle and percussive cut, with the midrange detail and note attack inherent in ash as a tonewood. The Pickup Blend wheels allow for a smooth gradient between the two pickups on each neck, with additional Master Volume and Tone knobs.
The pair of fretboards have block position markers, and the tuning machine trays on the pegheads have plenty of shine, capping the original sets of Kluson tuning machines. The scale length measures 22 1/2". The electronics all function as intended, with untouched solder joints and visible date codes on the Stackpole pots from the 47th week of 1955. The original pair of knurled chrome knobs are intact, the small Fender badge is present between the necks, and the leg flanges are all original.
The Blonde nitro lacquer gloss finish retains the large Fender "spaghetti" waterslide decal, and cosmetic wear includes a number of minor dings on the body as a whole, a targeted area of pick wear between the two necks, a few areas of isolated wear on the bottom of the steel, and a light finish reaction from the case lining adjacent to the control plates.
The original tweed "knucklebuster" hardshell case is included; all three original latches are functional and the original handle is intact. The three original chrome-plated legs are also present in the case, fitting neatly into the lid.
