Up for sale, a 1955 Fender Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A transitional model with a wide panel face, rear mounted control panel, 5D1 circuit, and 6" Permaflux speaker, this four watt Tweed is as simple and pure as tube amp tone gets. For Tweed era Fender bark and cut, there are few better companions than a Champ, and this example has a vintage tube set to round things out.
The preamp is loaded with a bevy of original red "dynamite" Astron caps, and all of the original Astron power supply caps are intact too and still viable. The original particularly robust Triad power transformer is present, and the output transformer is a vintage replacement. The amp still has a two-prong power cable (a three-prong can be installed at the buyer's request). The all-vintage tube complement includes a General Electric-branded 6V6 power tube and 5Y3 rectifier, with a metal can RCA preamp tube.
The original alnico magnet Permaflux 6L-1A 6" speaker is intact, stamped "ED" which translates to April of '55 (same stamp as Fender's tube charts of the era). The tube chart is fully intact, with an "EG" stamp that translates to July of '55.
The original tweed is ambered, with light wear on the edges. The Fender badge on the face of the amp is intact and the control panel has all of its white silkscreen text and a speckling of patina. The original leather handle is intact and unbroken.
