Up for sale, a 1954 Gibson L-4C, professionally setup and complete with a hardshell case. This vintage Gibson archtop shares the dimensions of its electric brother the ES-175, boasting a solid, hand-carved spruce top, maple back, mahogany sides, and a mahogany neck capped with a bound slab Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. A lively and dynamic golden age Gibson archtop, this L-4C delivers a dry, woody cut and percussive snap. The trebles are sweet and punchy, with excellent midrange projection and complexity, and a defined, round bass register. The guitar weighs 4lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh roundwound bronze 12-53 strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.

The Honduran mahogany neck has a round baseball bat C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .900" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 9th. The bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard features pearl split parallelogram inlay, refretted with flawless jumbo fretwire. The guitar plays easily up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nylon nut is intact with a small shim on the underside to account for the increased fret height. The headstock is fitted with a set of brand new Kluson Deluxe vintage reissue tuners that perfectly match the footprint and appearance of the original gears with single line gear housings and sharp-edged keystone buttons. The headstock was at one time fitted with a different tuner set, with singular small mounting holes inset from the current gears, cleanly doweled with a dot of touchup.

The neck meets the body at an ideal angle, and the original Brazilian rosewood compensated floating bridge is intact, as is the original nickel diamond tailpiece. The multi-ply bound dark tortoise pickguard is a modern replacement, and the original white oval label is visible through the F hole with its cleanly stamped model info and A-prefix serial number.

The original Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss finish is intact, with some wear through the finish and lightly into the spruce just beyond the fretboard extension on top where a floating pickup once rested. This wear has a bit of targeted black lacquer touchup, and the nitro gloss is otherwise 100% original. Pick wear extends to the bass-side upper bout and there is light finish checking on the body as a whole, with some small nicks and scuffs mostly relegated to the top and sides, while the back is surprisingly clean with a vibrant three-tone Sunburst. A strap button has been added to the neck heel, and there is light wear on the edge of the neck heel and headstock and some wear through the nitro gloss on the neck profile, primarily behind frets 1-5.

A modern brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included.
