Up for sale, a 1954 Fender Dual Six Professional vintage double neck console steel in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original telescoping legs and lacquered tweed hardshell case. This steel features the original Butterscotch Blonde lacquer finish and pair of string-through pickups. The best reference point for the sound of Fender's string-through pickups is perhaps Santo & Johnny's Sleepwalk, and these single coils offer a potent midrange with ample treble cut and sweetness. With the Tone control open, there is plenty of high frequency sparkle and definition, accompanied by a hint of harmonically-rich lower midrange growl that is often associated with the through-pickup design. The scale length for each neck measures 22 5/8”, with block position markers. String spacing measures 1 7/8” at the nut, and 2” at the bridge. The stock tuning machines with chrome-plated lollipop buttons turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. Beneath the lower neck tuner tray, the steel is pencil dated to September, 1954. All of the electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls, as well as a three-way pickup selector switch to toggle between the string-through pickups on each neck. The wiring harness features modern 250k CTS pots. The chrome plating on all the hardware is all notably clean, including the original pair of dome-topped knurled knobs, control and switch plates, pickup mounting plates, and pickup covers. The control plate is stamped with the original serial number, adjacent to the 1/4” input jack. All the original Fender badging is present, including the central “Fullerton, California” badge and the chrome diamonds on the perimeter of the necks. The gloss nitro lacquer Butterscotch Blonde finish exhibits extensive checking, and there are only a handful of minor nicks and scuffs on the instrument as a whole. The original lacquered tweed hardshell case with red poodle interior is included, along with the original telescoping chrome-plated legs. The case retains the original molded handle and trio of latches, with clean brown leather ends. A small vintage tag for the case is also included.
