Up for sale, a 1952 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a '50s Lifton five-latch hardshell case. This early Les Paul Standard features the original Goldtop nitro lacquer finish, P-90 pickups, and Kluson "no line" tuners, refretted with '58-spec medium jumbo fretwire.

Weighing 8lbs 8oz, this Gibson has a resonant sonic foundation with a carved two-piece maple cap, Honduran mahogany body, and round Honduran mahogany neck capped with a dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard. These tonewoods yield excellent treble clarity, smooth sustain and fundamental warmth. The P-90 pair offers a distinct sound in each pickup position, measuring 7.9k ohms at the bridge and 8.1k ohms at the neck. The bridge pickup has a chewy spank with a rich, textured bark, highly responsive to pick attack. With both pickups engaged, the tone is smooth and detailed, and the neck pickup is fat, woody and percussive—bold and bell-like with ideal muscle. This Les Paul Standard has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

-Hardware: MojoAxe CCT-A trapeze tailpiece
-Plastics: Original pickup covers, amber switch tip, pickguard and switch cover. Modern aged CAB plastic speed knobs, MojoAxe switch plate, replica brown control cavity cover

The pickups both retain their original winds, wired to a harness with a quad of NOS CTS pots which date to the 5th week of '52 and a pair of replica aged Grey Tiger capacitors. Plastics include the original P-90 covers, pickguard, amber switch tip, and rear switch cover (the control cavity cover is a modern replica). The gold speed knobs are a very faithfully aged set constructed of CAB (Cellulose Acetate Butyrate) plastic, and the correct squared off switch plate is a MojoAxe replica.

The headstock exhibits a roughly U-shaped repair favoring the bass side which doesn’t extend to the headstock face. This repair was executed long ago, is extremely tight/clean and difficult to spot, and is structurally sound with no touch-up or overspray.

The gloss Goldtop finish is 100% original, with forearm wear and oxidation of the gold on the bass-side lower bout on top, and very tight and largely vertical lacquer checking. There is buckle rash on the back and finish loss along the back body edge, with various shallow marks along the neck carve worn smooth through play. A few shallow pinholes are also present on top surrounding the trapeze wraparound (one bass side, three treble side) for some unknown purpose, but likely to anchor the trapeze, and there is a small recess on top beneath the treble side of the trapeze to further anchor the tailpiece and avoid any slippage/misalignment that can ail the trapeze design.

A 1950s Lifton five-latch hardshell case with a brown exterior and pink plush interior is included. The case features functional latches and a replacement leather handle.
