1952 Gibson J-45 Vintage Slope Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1952 Gibson J-45 in perfect working order, benefitting from a professional neck reset and a new hand-carved bone saddle. With the traditional tonewood complement of a solid spruce top and Honduran mahogany back and sides, this J-45 delivers a tonal profile that's bold, authoritative and ceaselessly warm. Balancing richness and clarity with excellent string-to-string definition, this J-45's bass register has ample muscle, offering a smooth growl when you dig in hard, while the trebles are punchy and sweet. The guitar is extremely dynamic and sensitive to pick attack, responsive to a variety of playing styles, with a bell-like tone when fingerpicked. The guitar is featherweight at 4lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation, strung with fresh 12-54 strings.

The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a round, substantial "baseball bat" C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder and ideal heft, measuring .895" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original slender banjo frets, showing decent grooves beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 (and corresponding wear into the rosewood in this area as well), with sparingly little wear further up the fretboard. The neck is straight, and the guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The original nylon nut is intact measuring a full 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features a clean original Gibson silkscreen logo, fitted with a set of era-correct vintage Kluson single line tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

The neck has been professionally reset, meeting the body at an ideal angle, and a strap button has been added to the neck heel. The original Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top, fitted with a new tall carved bone saddle. All of the original braces are intact and stable, and the original tortoise pickguard sits flat on the top. Visible on the heel block, the Z-prefix factory order number is present.

The original nitro lacquer finish shows tight spiderweb finish checking across the body, with strum wear across the pick path, a few touched-up dings on the treble-side lower bout on top, and a slender repaired split on the inside edge of the pickguard between the soundhole and bridge. There are a couple slight repaired cracks in the mahogany at the bass-side waist, with two longer, more prominent crack repairs in the mahogany on the treble-side extending from the waist to the lower bout, with an additional crack in the mahogany on either side of the endpin. All have been professionally addressed and stabilized as needed. Additional cosmetic wear includes various nicks and dings consistent with honest use on the body as a whole. The neck retains its smooth gloss with some small marks on the profile length, and nothing deep or distracting to the palm while fretting.

This soulful and professionally maintained golden age Gibson J-45 boasts all the necessary service due a guitar of this vintage and calibre, with a professional neck reset and tall carved bone saddle.

A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
