Up for sale, a circa 1951 Fender Deluxe tube amplifier in excellent condition, freshly serviced and loaded with a Jensen P12Q speaker. The first iteration of Fender's most iconic tweed amp, this "TV front" amp is the perfect mid-size entry point into Fender's tweed amp range, re-tweeded in its lifetime with a cleanly recapped circuit and modern Hammond output transformer.
It's easy to coax grit and gain out of this 12 watt circuit and 1x12 cabinet, with a dynamic response, complex harmonic content, and the kind of sweet, singing overdrive that only comes from a Fender tweed era circuit. Paired with your favorite Fender single coil pickup, the amp does have a glassy, dynamic clean sound at lower volumes as well.
The circuit has been freshly serviced, balancing originality and functionality, retaining the original Triad power transformer along with the modern Hammond output transformer, mounted to the speaker frame as per spec. The preamp features a host of modern Sprague Orange Drop capacitors, and the power supply has been recapped with Sprague Atoms. The original trio of Stackpole pots are intact (date codes obscured). A three-prong power cable has also been installed. Tubes include a vintage 5Y3 rectifier and metal can octal preamp tubes, along with a brand new freshly-biased pair of Electro Harmonix 6V6 power tubes.
The speaker is a vintage Jensen P12Q with a dark green frame and original bell cover, recently reconed and offering a bit more low end focus and range than the P12R which came stock in this model. The stamp on the edge of the frame dates the speaker to 1960. Inside the cabinet, the tube chart is present.
The cabinet has been professionally re-tweeded long ago with ambered, lacquered diagonal tweed, while the original oxblood grillcloth and Fender badge on the amp's face is intact. Much of the white silkscreen lettering is still intact on the chrome-plated chassis, along with the chicken head knobs. The leather handle is a vintage replacement.
