Up for sale, a 1950 Martin 0-18 vintage acoustic guitar in exceptional condition. An extremely tidy example, this Martin has received all the maintenance due an acoustic of this vintage with a professional neck reset, new tall carved bone saddle and full refret, retaining the original small maple bridge plate. The tonewood complement includes a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, and this Martin is a modestly-sized cannon, offering a crisp and woody tone with tons of projection and a rich, broad tonal character that belies the instrument’s modest dimensions. The bass register is defined and smooth, delivering the growl of mahogany when digging in hard with a flatpick. Very balanced and articulate for fingerpicking, with Martin’s hallmark string-to-string clarity, the instrument's midrange is balanced, and the trebles have plenty of sparkle and just enough punch. Featherweight at 3lbs 9oz, this Martin has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 12-53 strings and comfortable action. The mahogany neck has a substantial soft V profile carve that fills the palm, offering a surprising amount of shoulder with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .885" deep at the 1st fret and .999" at the 9th. The extremely dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard has been professionally refretted with vintage-spec slender fretwire which shows virtually no wear, playing cleanly in every register. The scale length is 24.9" and the new carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock features a Brazilian rosewood veneer topped with the original nigh flawless Martin script logo, and the stock open-gear nickel tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The original Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, fitted with a new tall carved bone saddle ensuring decades of future viability. The original maple bridge plate is intact too and extremely clean. The original tortoise pickguard sits flat, and the guitar has the very slight and professionally addressed "B string crack" between the pickguard edge and bridge. The instrument is otherwise crack-free, and the nitro lacquer gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray. Cosmetic wear on top is limited to pick wear across the soundhole and a few additional dings mostly clustered on the lower bout behind the bridge. There is light wear consistent with careful use on the back, and to a lesser extent on the sides, comprising some small dings and finish scratches. The nitro gloss on the neck profile is smooth and free of palm wear.A vintage, era-correct hardshell case is included, a bit oversized for the 0-18 body, but still a handy tote. The case has a green felt interior, brown textured exterior, original leather handle, and functional latches.
