Out Of Stock
Up for sale, a circa 1950 Fender Dual Professional Double 8 vintage console steel in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original telescoping legs. The steel features a Walnut gloss refinish over a mahogany body, a pair of original string-through pickups, and a raised second tier neck for easy accessibility. The best reference point for the sound of Fender's string-through pickups is perhaps Santo & Johnny's Sleepwalk, and these single coils offer a potent midrange with ample treble cut and sweetness. With the Tone control open, there is plenty of high frequency sparkle and definition, accompanied by a hint of harmonically-rich lower midrange growl that is often associated with the through-pickup design.

The scale length measures 22 5/8“ for each neck, with Roman numeral position markers, a holdover from the late '40s Dual Professional steels. String spacing measures 2 3/16“ at the nut, and 2 3/4" at the bridge, and the stock tuning machines with chrome-plated lollipop buttons turn smoothly. All of the electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone knobs, and a three-way pickup selector switch to toggle between the single string-through pickups on each neck. The CTS pots were replaced in the steel's lifetime, with visible date codes from the 1970s.

The body has been refinished with a transparent gloss Walnut, highlighting the grain of the mahogany. The chrome plating on the hardware is remarkably clean on the headstock cover plates, control and switch plates, and pickup mounting plates, with light surface patina on  the pickup covers. The control plate is stamped with the original D-prefix serial adjacent to the 1/4" input jack, and the flat-top knurled knobs are modern replacements. And while the Fender badge is no longer present, the iconic diamond badges are intact on both sides. Cosmetic wear includes minor nicks and scuffs, and light palm wear through the finish adjacent to the selector switch.

The original telescoping legs are included, along with a gigbag.
