Up for sale, a 1951 Fender Deluxe, freshly serviced and in perfect working order. The first iteration of Fender's most iconic tweed amp, this "TV front" amp is the perfect mid-size entry point into Fender's tweed amp range, featuring the original Jensen P12R speaker, a cleanly recapped circuit, and a modern Mercury Magnets output transformer.
It's easy to coax grit and gain out of this 12 watt circuit and 1x12 cabinet, with a dynamic response, complex harmonic content, and the kind of sweet, singing overdrive that only comes from the Fender tweed era. The circuit retains the original Triad power transformer, with a modern Mercury Magnets output transformer mounted to the speaker frame as per spec. The preamp has been professionally recapped with a combination of vintage Sprague Black Beauty and Cornell Dubilier capacitors, with all new F&T electrolytic caps in the power supply. Two of the original Stackpole pots are intact (date codes obscured), with a modern Alpha pot in the Mic Volume control, and a three-prong power cable has also been installed. The tubes are all vintage USA-made valves, with a pair of Sylvania and Silvertone power tubes (matched), metal can preamp tubes and an RCA 5Y3 rectifier.
The speaker is the original Jensen P12R, and this green frame alnico driver has great clarity, excellent response across the tonal spectrum, and smooth breakup when dimed out. The speaker has been professionally reconed and retains its original bell cover and Jensen label, with a stamp on the edge of the frame that dates to the 5th week of '51. Inside the cabinet, the stock tube chart is in excellent shape and fully intact with crisp corners.
The original ambered tweed and oxblood grillcloth is intact, along with the stock Fender badge on the amp's face. Much of the white silkscreen lettering is still present on the chrome-plated chassis, along with the original trio of chicken head knobs. The leather handle is a vintage-spec modern replacement.
