Up for sale, a 1949 Fender Deluxe in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Complete with the original Triad transformers, Jensen P12R speaker, a full vintage tube set and a bevy of premium vintage capacitors, this "TV front" amp is the first iteration of Fender's most iconic tweed amplifier and is the perfect mid-size entry point into Fender's tweed amp range.
It's easy to coax grit and gain out of this 12 watt circuit and 1x12 cabinet, with a dynamic response, complex harmonic content, and the kind of sweet, singing overdrive that only comes from a Fender tweed era circuit. Paired with your favorite Fender single coil pickup, the amp delivers a glassy, dynamic clean sound at lower volumes as well.
The circuit has been freshly serviced, retaining the original Triad transformers. The preamp is loaded with vintage Sealdtite and Cornell Dubilier capacitors, with original carbon comp resistors and Stackpole pots which have visible date codes from the 30th week of 1949. The power supply has been professionally recapped with F&Ts, and the original two-prong power cable is intact (can be switched to a three-prong at the next owner’s discretion). The complete vintage tube set includes metal can RCA preamp tubes, a matched pair of GE 6V6GT power tubes, and a Sylvania 5Y3GT rectifier.
The speaker is the original Jensen P12R with a dark green frame and original bell cover, providing great clarity, excellent response across the tonal spectrum, and smooth breakup when diming out the amp. The stamp on the edge of the frame dates the speaker to the 32nd week of 1949, and the serialized tube chart inside the cabinet is present.
The original tweed is in excellent shape, with light wear on the bottom 20% of the cabinet. The stock grillcloth is also quite clean, and the chrome-plated faceplate shows light, uniform surface patina, retaining the original chicken head knobs. The Fender badge on the face of the amp, the leather handle and the sphinx glides (feet) are all intact.
