Up for sale, a 1948 Gibson ES-300 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Geib tweed hardshell case. Introduced in 1940 as Gibson’s premiere electric guitar model, the ES-300 was redesigned in 1946 with a P-90 pickup, only available with this feature set from 1946-48.
The maple body measures a full 17” across the lower bout, with prominent bubble figuring across the Sunburst-finished back, boasting numerous period features including open-geared Kluson tuners with plastic keystone buttons, split parallelogram inlay, a wide bevel five-ply pickguard, raised triple parallelogram tailpiece, and tall, numberless "hatbox" speed knobs. An elegant jazzbox with a full 25 1/2“ scale length, the instrument yields a rich, full acoustic response with a woody midrange punch and overarching smoothness accentuated by a fresh set of 12-53 flatwound strings. The P-90 pickup is sweet and glassy, with round, bouncy trebles and a taut, percussive low end that retains great articulation through complex chord voicings and melodic playing alike. This ES-300 weighs 6lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

Crack-free and well-kept, the gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish exhibits checking across the body, with one small area of touchup at the bass side of the neck heel. Cosmetic wear is limited to light buckle rash central to the back and some minor marks on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile exhibits some finish loss central to the carve behind frets 3-7, and a few shallow nicks along the profile length worn smooth through subsequent play.
The original Gibson/Geib tweed "Aeroplane Cloth Covered" hardshell case is included, easily one of Gibson’s most desirable vintage archtop cases, also well-kept over the last 75+ years with original latches and leather handle.
