Up for sale, a 1947 Martin 0-17T Tenor in perfect working order, benefiting from a recent neck reset and full refret. A diminutive X-braced model with solid Honduran mahogany construction, the 0-17T features a 13 1/2" lower bout width and 23" scale length. The tone has a bold, punchy quality with plenty of inherent warmth given the mahogany construction, well suited to clear, sonorous chording and lead work with plenty of projection, despite its modest proportions. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Martin is dialed in with fresh strings and easy-playing action.
The mahogany neck has a U-shaped profile carve measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and 1.090" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard benefits from a fresh refret with medium fretwire, playing clearly up the 23" scale. The original ebony nut measures 1 1/4" in width, and the headstock features a Brazilian rosewood veneer and stock open-gear tuning machines that still function as intended.
The guitar benefits from a professional neck reset, with the neck meeting the body at an ideal angle for decades of future viability. The Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and a new tall bone saddle has been carved. The deep red tortoise pickguard is a modern replacement, very accurate to vintage spec in its mottling and sheen.
There are two small repaired splits on top extending from the edges of the pickguard, and a few very slight and tight back cracks have also been cleanly repaired. There is consistent wear along the top and back body edges, with plenty of finish scratches and dings on the body as a whole from decades of use. The neck profile exhibits some shallow “channels” into the mahogany itself, largely worn smooth from contact with the palm, but still unusual enough to call out. This is set apart from palm or capo wear and exists primarily behind frets 1-6 (highlighted by an image in the photo set), with more common shallow marks on the carve further up the neck, none of which affect playability or comfort.
A padded acoustic gigbag (slightly oversized for the instrument) is included.
