Up for sale, a 1946 Gibson J-45, complete with a hardshell case. A transitional model identical in spec to the Wartime "Banner Logo" J-45s, this Gibson retains the distinctive script logo on the headstock which would be supplanted by the block logo by '47.
Weighing 4lbs 1oz, traditional tonewoods include an X-braced Adirondack spruce top, Honduran mahogany sides, a rare one-piece Honduran mahogany back, and a substantial mahogany neck capped by a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Professionally serviced to play its best, this J-45 benefits from a neck reset, tall through saddle and modern 1 3/4" nut, and a full refret with slender, vintage-style fretwire.
Delivering a vital, powerful and detailed sound, this J-45 is lively and touch-sensitive in its responsiveness. The low end offers muscle and rich growl, and the wound strings are ceaselessly warm and woody, while the plain strings are sparkling, round and punchy. There really isn’t a complimentary adjective we couldn’t throw at this J-45. It’s just that good. Benefitting from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this J-45 is strung with fresh 12-54 bronze strings and dialed in with easy-playing action and accurate intonation.

The original gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish shows various scuffs, dings, and signs of honest playwear. There is a rectangular mahogany patch on the bass-side lower bout rim, finished to match, with one repaired split on the bass-side mahogany rim at the waist just forward of the patch. The one-piece back has particularly dynamic grain with five repaired cracks, reinforced as needed from inside the body. The center seam on top has also been repaired and the finish is all-original save for the mahogany patch on the side, one small spot of black touch-up at the bass-side waist on top, and a tiny bit of touch-up along the cleanly repaired back cracks. The finish has been worn to the smooth, bare mahogany behind frets 1-10, and there are a few letters carved on the back of the headstock between the strip tuners.
A modern hardshell case is included.
