Up for sale, a 1941 Martin 00-17 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The highest-tiered all-mahogany Martin in the company's Pre War lineup, this 00-17 has received all essential maintenance including a professional neck reset, full refret, new carved rosewood bridge, and a compensated bone saddle.
Featuring all mahogany body/neck construction capped with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, this 00-17 has a broad, powerful voice with a sweet percussive cut and ample projection, pairing the warmth and smooth growl of mahogany with the articulation and string-to-string clarity emblematic of the Martin sound. The guitar is extremely balanced for fingerpicking and rewarding for strumming with a pick. Trebles are sparkling and just punchy enough, while the wound strings have a real richness to them. The guitar is featherweight at 3lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 12-53 strings and easy-playing action.
The mahogany neck has a soft V profile carve, overall quite slender at the nut with significantly more depth as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 9th. The thick Brazilian rosewood fretboard has lightly rolled fretboard edges, and the new slender fretwire plays flawlessly up the straight neck. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard itself shows some requisite wear on the treble side of the board from frets 1-3. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains its original set of Kluson open-gear tuning machines with new white buttons. The gold Martin silkscreen on the Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer is also notably clean.
A new rosewood bridge has been installed with a properly carved and compensated tall bone saddle. The neck has also been reset, meeting the body at the ideal angle for decades of future trouble-free use. The original tortoise pickguard is intact and sits flush with the top on all edges. There is strum wear across the soundhole, extending faintly beyond the forward edge of the guard, with one fractional repaired split just beyond the guard, and a couple additional minor crack repairs at the bass-side waist on the back and on the bass side upper bout on the side. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to various scuffs and minor marks on the body consistent with light, careful use.
A vintage hardshell case is included.
