Up for sale, a 1941 Epiphone DeLuxe, complete with a hardshell case. Handcrafted in New York and one of the last Epis produced in the company's golden Pre-War era, the DeLuxe was the guitar originally at the top of Epiphone's lineup, only supplanted by the Emperor in 1936. Benefitting from the maintenance due an archtop of this vintage, servicing includes a neck reset, refret with vintage-spec fretwire, a premium pickguard from Fox Guards, and a gloss lacquer Blonde refinish that highlights the heavily figured carved bubble maple back and rims.

With a carved quartersawn Adirondack red spruce top and a lower bout width of a full 17 3/8“, this DeLuxe has plenty of crisp midrange chop and exquisite projection, with sparkling cut and a round, punchy quality to the trebles. The low strings are very clear, with deep, resonant bass and a brassy shimmer. This DeLuxe weighs 5lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and 12-53 bronze strings.

Neck Specs:

-Wood: Maple, Walnut
-Shape: Substantial C, measuring .885” 1st fret, 1.005” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Brazilian rosewood, multi-ply binding, cloud inlay
-Frets: Vintage-spec slender (refret)
-Scale Length: 25 1/2”
-Nut: 1 3/4”, bone, replacement
-Tuners: Gold-plated “E” Epsilon-stamped, 16:1 ratio

Body Specs:

-Wood: Adirondack spruce, maple
-Hardware: Frequensator “Pat. Pending” tailpiece, Brazilian rosewood bridge
-Plastics: Bound firestripe tortoise pickguard, Fox Guards replica
-Serialization: “New York” label, serial dates to 1941

The body exhibits a number of professionally repaired splits, two on the upper bout of the back extending from the binding, one on the treble side lower bout, and two on top adjacent to the bass-side F hole. The binding has been reglued in several locations, with one small piece of  new binding at the treble-side waist.

The instrument exhibits a semi-professional refinish in Blonde nitro lacquer, highlighting the deep bubble figuring in the carved maple back and rims. Cosmetic wear includes buckle rash across the back and a handful of minor dings on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile has a worn-in, satin-esque feel, with a couple shallow marks along the profile length that don't distract the pam while fretting.

A modern brown tolex hardshell case is included.
