Up for sale, a 1940's Oahu gray pearloid lap steel in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Manufactured by Magnatone's predecessor Dickerson in the early '40s, this vintage steel has a smooth, snappy tone via the original single coil pickup mounted below the large chrome pickup cover which doubles as a mounting plate for the Volume control. The plate is stamped "Made in USA - Pat. Pending."
The neck features a 24 fret range with diamond position markers, and the strings cross the original aluminum nut. The stock open-gear strip tuners are intact on the headstock, and these tuners turn smoothly, fitted with new white buttons. The Oahu waterslide decal on the headstock face is flawless.
The pickup has just been professionally rewound and was originally located below the pearloid, which was carefully removed above the pickup to "excavate" it and have it properly serviced. The original large black Art Deco-style knob is also intact. Featuring a string through body design, the strings cross an aluminum bridge inset into the lower bout, ensuring maximum resonance and also an articulate treble character.
The gray pearloid is extremely clean with no flaking or undue shrinkage of the material, and the black felt on the back of the steel is also incredibly clean.
The original form-fit black robust chipboard case is included, complete with the original leather handle and functional latches.
