Up for sale, a 1940s Gretsch Synchromatic 100 archtop in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Later renamed the 6014, this Gretsch jazz box sports early features including a rounded headstock shape with script inlay and unbound f holes. This particular Synchromatic 100 benefits from work befitting an instrument of its vintage, including a neck reset and full refret.

Tonewoods include a spruce top, maple back and sides, a two-piece maple neck, and bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard, with a lower bout width of 16.5”. This Gretsch has tons of projection on tap, with a crisp punchiness to the trebles and a smooth rumble in the low end that retains great definition for complex chord voicings. The midrange is full and warm, with natural harmonic bloom when notes ring out. This Gretsch weighs 5lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze roundwound strings and ideal action.

The gloss Sunburst lacquer finish (catalog: polished dark brown lacquer with sunburst shadings) exhibits extensive, prominent checking across the body, and there is a touched-up finish blemish on the back at the treble-side lower bout. There are a number of tiny dings on the body as a whole, as well as minor finish loss adjacent to the neck heel. The matching lacquer on the neck profile also exhibits extensive checking, with some finish loss central to the carve and a handful of shallow chips along the bass-side shoulder (most prominent at fret 7) that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.

The original hardshell case with textured brown exterior is included, retaining the original handle, and all but one of the latches are functional.
