Up for sale, a Fuchs Overdrive Supreme 30 2x10” combo amplifier in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with slip cover and footswitch. This boutique amp is Fuchs’ take on the legendary Dumble Overdrive Special (ODS), prized for its adherence to the harmonically-rich ODS sound.
The original Overdrive Special amplifier was allegedly inspired by a performance attended by a young Alexander Dumble where he heard Robben Ford playing through a Tube Screamer into a Fender Bassman. The ODS was designed with the intention of recreating that particular tone; one with a rich low end and searing, crisp highs that didn’t become overly mushy when opened up. As such, the ODS features a unique pseudo-two channel design wherein the overdrive channel actually piggybacks off the clean (very similarly to how a pedal pushes the front end of a tube amp). That design allows for a remarkable degree of clarity when the Overdrive is engaged, and the preamp EQ affects both channels.
The Fuchs Overdrive Supreme has a big, bold sound, with pristine cleans and fantastically creamy breakup when driven hard. The clean channel is crisp and balanced, with bright highs and a strong, responsive low end presence, and further tonal sculpting precision via the Brite and Deep switches. The Rock/Jazz toggle changes the nature of the Tone controls: Rock is more aggressive and punchy, while Jazz is smooth and balanced. Other functionality comes via a Mid Boost (at the High tone control), and a Gain Boost (at the Mid tone control) that bypasses the Tone section entirely. True to Dumble form, the Clean channel acts as a preamp for the Overdrive channel, and all the Tone and EQ controls are active (including the boosts), with separate OD In and Out controls; the former dictates OD saturation level, while the latter sets the balance of clean and dirty signals.
The tube complement comprises a quartet of Tube Amp Doctor 6V6GTV power tubes and four ECC83s in the preamp. This amp is loaded with a pair of Eminence Redcoat Ramrod 10” speakers, rated at 8 ohms and designed for British flavored tones, delivering singing highs, clear overtones, and plenty of gutsy, meaty aggression.
Cosmetic touches include blonde tolex, brown grillcloth, Fuchs badge, and cream knobs. This is a very clean example, with just a couple faint marks on the enclosure.
The original slip cover is included, along with the two-button footswitch.
